According to the applicable laws and regulations, every refugee has the right to a basic account. A basic account is a type of payment account that provides the customer with the opportunity to transfer salary, pension, state benefits, scholarships and other payments, as well as the opportunity to withdraw cash at a credit institution or ATM, make transfers, attach a payment card and make payments with it.
In support of the Ukrainian people, several banks have introduced simplified procedures for drawing up a current account and payment card for Ukrainian refugees who have found a safe haven in Latvia. There are also banks where the reviewing and opening of an account application, as well as the issuance and use of a payment card are free of charge.
In order to open an account and issue a payment card, visit one of the branches and present a travel document or ID issued in Ukraine, or a TUA (ID) issued in Latvia.
To find out more about opening an account and issuing a payment card, please contact the specific bank before visiting. It should be noted that most banks serve customers in person only upon previous appointment.
